Karl Pilkington was born on the 23rd September 1972 in Manchester (England) and is a Sony award-winning radio producer, he is also a podcaster, an author and some would say a philosopher. He is best known for producing and co-presenting 'The Ricky Gervais Show' on XFM however after the radio shows The Ricky Gervais Show was turn into a number of podcast that were available on iTunes.

Karl Pilkington grew up in Manchester but spent alot of his childhood in Porthmadog, Wales due to his father's work. He was educated in Manchester, but had neither the punctuality or the motivation to learn. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant contacted Karl's school after a conversation during their XFM show and discovered that he attained only one GCSE for History, for which he achieved an "E" grade.

Karl has had a number of jobs, his favourite being his paper round, which he had at age 14. In December 2005, Karl stood in for two BBC 6Music shows, and co-presented the shows with Russell Brand. They proved so popular that by the following April Brand was working as a permanent DJ at BBC 6Music, which was the forerunner to his Radio 2 show. Karl then went to work with Ricky and Stephen at XFM where his views would become a nationwide phenomenon. It is often mused by Ricky and Stephen, that Karl "has a head shaped like a fucking orange." This phrase has become well known by the British public, and possibly worldwide.

Ricky Gervais Podcasts

The podcasts came after the end of the XFM shows. Karl left the world of radio stating that he didn't enjoy working as a producer. He debated a number of new jobs including being a dog walker and possibly returning to his old job doing a paper round. Fortunately however he decided, along side Ricky and Stephen, to move the show onto the new format of podcasts and has never looked back. The overwhelming popularity of the show made podcasting a phenomenon. This post includes seasons 1-3 however 4 and 5 are in a later post.
